Pest Control - Fleas

Flea Control & Treatment Advice

Fleas are more than just a nuisance  they pose health risks to pets and people, and infestations can rapidly get out of hand. At Bite Back Pest Control, we offer targeted flea treatments and expert advice to help you reclaim your home.

Understanding the Flea Lifecycle

  • After a single blood meal, a female flea can lay over 100 eggs, usually on pets like cats or dogs.

  • These eggs fall off into carpets, bedding, and floors where they hatch into larvae.

  • Larvae burrow into soft furnishings and build cocoons in which they mature.

  • Within 2 weeks, adult fleas emerge — ready to feed and reproduce.

Note: Fleas can survive up to a year without feeding, but cannot reproduce unless they feed on blood.

Dangers of Flea Infestations

Fleas aren’t just uncomfortable — they can be dangerous:

  • Carry diseases and parasitic worms

  • Act as hosts to dog tapeworm, which can infect humans

  • Cause itchiness, allergic reactions, and distress in pets and people

Property Preparation for Flea Treatment

To ensure our flea treatment is effective, please follow these steps before we visit:

  •  Clear floors — Remove all small or loose items.

  •  Vacuum the entire house — Focus on carpets, rugs, under furniture, and pet resting areas. Dispose of the vacuum bag or canister contents safely.

  •  Vacate the property — You, your family, and pets must leave for at least 4 hours during treatment.

  •  Do not vacuum for two weeks after treatment to allow residual insecticide to work.

Ongoing Flea Prevention Tips

  •  Check your pets regularly for fleas using a flea comb

  •  Wash pet bedding frequently on a hot cycle

  •  Use vet-approved flea treatments (spot-on, tablets, or collars)

  •  Maintain a clean home — Regular vacuuming and hygiene reduce risk

  •  Treat all pets in the home, even if only one shows signs of fleas
